Grace to you and peace!

This week I want to remind you about the role and nature of faith. It is what separates people into two categories, saved and not saved. We eventually get used to such things and when the time comes to give a simple definition, we are unable to do so.

(Gen. 15:6) And [Abraham] believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness.

(John 6:40) For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.

(Rom. 5:1-2) Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

(Rom. 10:17) So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

(Eph. 2:8-9) For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

(Heb. 11:1) Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

(Heb. 11:3) By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.

(Heb. 11:6) And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

Thus, faith means a complete rejection of one’s own merits and resources. It is a full confidence and hope on the mercy of God. Faith means to hold onto God’s promises (real facts) and rely completely on Christ’s completed work in salvation. It is a complete trusting and obeying of God and His work in us!

Beloved, how wonderful would it be if we would not only understand what faith is but would also grow in it (2 Thess. 1:3) and would overcome all difficulties with that same faith (v. 4), looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith (Heb. 12:2).
