The Prodigal Son

Scripture:

I. Complete bankruptcy (vv. 11-16)
Do you understand that sin, although sweet at first, brings destruction?
Have you realized your complete bankruptcy, or are you trying to save yourself?

II. Humble repentance (vv. 17-19)
A. Come to your senses (v. 17)
B. Think about the Father (v. 17)
C. Admit the need (vv. 18-19)
D. Repent in the heart (vv. 18-19)
E. Seek mercy (v. 19)
F. Submit to the will of the Father (vv. 18-19)
G. Go to the Father (vv. 18, 20)

Have you gone through the process of humbling yourself, admitting your need, and asking for help?
Do you realize that your sin is always a sin against God?

III. Genuine pursuit of relationship (vv. 20-24)
When you sin, where does the vector of your life point to?

Practical takeaways:
1) True repentance liberates one from bondage of the fear of man.
2) The church must be open for the “unfit” people.
3) If the church and the Word of God are boring to you – you are in danger!
