Shalom, beloved!

Here is a quote from a book that I’m currently reading, 2,000 Years of Christ’s Power (Vol. 3), pg. 402:

The First outstanding Scottish teacher of Protestantism was a Catholic priest named Patrick Hamilton (1504-28), a member of the great Hamilton family, one of Scotland’s most powerful aristocratic houses. Hamilton fell under the influence first of Erasmus, then Luther, while at university, and actually spent some time in Luther’s Wittenberg. In February 1528, he was arrested for preaching Lutheran doctrine, and tried for heresy before Archbishop James Beaton of Saint Andrews, Scotland’s chief clergyman. Convicted and condemned, Hamilton was burnt at the stake on 29 February, at a mere twenty-four years old. It seemed like a waste, but the sacrifice bore unexpected fruit; as John Knox commented, “Almost within the whole realm there was none found who began not to inquire: wherefore was Master Patrick Hamilton burned?” Scottish Protestants immediately began appealing to the noble and heroic example of Christ’s martyr Patrick Hamilton.”

This historical story teaches us a very important truth, the faithfulness of a believer to God, which shines as a really bright witness for surrounding people. They cannot stand by the wayside when the church visibly lives by the principles of the gospel!

May this short story encourage you to continue being faithful to God in little, to continue loving your enemies, forgiving those who abuse you, serving the needy, and most importantly, truly sacrificing your time, resources, and abilities to serve others.
