Weekly Newsletter 03/30/2023

Glad to greet you all!

This week we want to invite you to pray specifically for the missionaries supported by our church. We are all called by God to spread the Gospel in this world (Matt. 28:20-21), however, our participation in this work can vary. When it comes to personal evangelism, we are all involved. But when it comes to missions, things are a little different. Some of us will go to the mission field, but some of us will financially and prayerfully support those who go.

We thank God for this privilege of being able to support a few families in missionary work. You can find their names and pictures further below. But now let us give our attention in prayer to the needs of these families. Remember, prayer for missionaries is a partnership with those who have dedicated their lives to spreading the Gospel to the unreached.

1. The disposition of local authorities (1 Tim. 2:1-4). Living in the US, we don’t realize how important this is. We have certain privileges, such as the preaching of the Gospel basically being unrestricted, however, this is far from reality in many countries. Let us pray that God would incline the hearts of those in authority toward our brothers and sisters in the faith so that they could freely preach Jesus Christ!

2. A biblical understanding of the church (Eph. 2:11-16). Many missionaries are inclined to spend more time doing “missions” (projects, social programs, etc.), rather than building up and investing in already existing churches or church plants.

3. Bold preaching of the Gospel (Acts 4:24-33). We might think that this is a strong suit for “professional” missionaries, however, this is not the case. Apostle Paul himself asked the church in Ephesus to uphold him in prayer, that God would give boldness in preaching (Eph. 6:19).

4. Family and physical health (1 Tim. 3:4-5; Mark 6:30-31). Oftentimes, the importance of ministry can distract one’s attention from his ministry and even personal health. This principle is important for anyone involved in ministry, and especially for missionaries. They may find themselves in a foreign and unfamiliar context where healthcare may not be the same as in the US, and where cultural expectations may distract husbands and wives from serving each other and their kids.

5. Personal growth in knowing God (Phil. 3:8-14). Without a deep and close relationship with God, any ministry will eventually lead one to burnout, discouragement, and even depression. But if the one who serves constantly drinks from the fountain of God’s grace, he will always be refreshed and energized in all his ministry.

6. A big dependence on God (Acts 13:6-9). This text deals with those who were filled with God’s Holy Spirit. This is a necessity for everyone who serves, especially a missionary.

7. God’s work in the hearts of those being served by missionaries (Acts 16:14). We understand that the preacher of the Gospel cannot change the hearer’s heart. Only God can! Let us pray that God would gift our missionaries the joy of seeing the fruit of their labor in repented hearts.
