Peace to you!

I hope no one will be offended if I admit that often we find ourselves in the busyness of life. This isn’t necessarily a bad busyness (even though this does happen), but this is what takes away our inner peace. There is much advice on how to have a calmer heart in the midst of a busy life, but nonetheless, Jesus Christ had an even busier schedule yet we see that He truly had inner peace, and He promises us not a less busy life but a calmer heart! How?

There are many ways of obtaining or keeping this inner peace in the midst of all the responsibilities of life. One of these ways is by being strategic during your time alone. Oftentimes people use their “time for themselves” for their bodies (massages, vacations, gyms, shopping, etc.) but the soul needs something greater! This greater thing is found in one word – quiet.

We overwhelm our minds with a stream of information and the busyness of all the chores and ultimately we don’t let our minds deal with everything. Christ found time to be alone! He “was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness” (Matt. 4:1), “went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed” (Mark 1:35; Luke 4:42), “he went up on the mountain by himself to pray; when evening came, he was there alone” (Matt. 14:23).

Throughout his busy schedule Christ still found time to spend alone. How simple yet how few practice this. Beloved, we want to encourage you to find time to spend alone with the Lord (not with your phone; actually leave your phone at home).

We must give our hearts rest at the throne of grace. This isn’t hard. You’ll be able to do it. Start small with 10-15 min. God will renew, refresh, and strengthen you. You’ll have the opportunity not only to tell Him what’s on your heart but also to hear what he wants to say to you.

The Scripture memory text for the next few weeks is – Matthew 14:23

“And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone”
